Sardinia (Olbia, Bosa Beaches)
Sardinia — again. This time we flew from Zurich to Olbia, picked up a rental car, and used the freedom of the road to explore more of the island’s west and east coasts.
Driving around Sardinia made it easy to discover quiet coastal towns and hidden beaches at our own pace. Renting a car in Olbia is one of the best ways to see the island: you can hop between rugged cliffs, turquoise coves, and medieval villages without being tied to schedules.
Highlights from the trip included La Caletta’s long, sandy shorelines; Bosa’s colourful medieval streets and riverside charm; Alghero’s Catalan-influenced old town and seafood scene; and Cala Gonone, the gateway to dramatic sea caves and secluded coves. We loved the almost-deserted beaches and crystal-clear water—the kind of places that make you want to slow down and soak it all in.
Quick tips for Sardinia travel: avoid August if you’re chasing solitude, book a car in advance during high season, carry sunscreen and water when you head to remote beaches, and leave time for spontaneous stops—some of the best views are unplanned.
Maybe not next year, but we’ll definitely be back to explore even more of this beautiful island.
