Two-week Sri Lanka itinerary: we did the classic roundtrip (excluding the island’s northern region), visiting Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Arugam Bay, Tangalle and Galle. This two-week holiday gave us a strong mix of city culture, hill-country tea estates, east-coast surf, and quiet southern beaches.
Colombo offered bustling markets and colonial architecture, while Kandy showcased the sacred Temple of the Tooth and lush lakeside views. Nuwara Eliya felt like a cool tea-country escape with rolling plantations and charming bungalows. Arugam Bay delivered laid-back surf vibes and coastal sunsets, and Tangalle and Galle provided tranquil beaches, historic forts and authentic seafood.
The standout moment of the trip was a safari in Yala East National Park. The park’s varied habitats—dry zone scrub, lagoons and woodland—support an impressive range of wildlife, from elephants and sloth bears to colorful birdlife and reptiles. Seeing animals in such a dramatic, natural setting was the highlight of our journey.
